Ingredients
3 desert apples, peeled, quartered and cored.
2 Bramley apples, peeled, quartered and cored.
1/2 tbs semolina
100 gms Demerara sugar
300 gms blackberries
1 desert spoon cinnamon
beaten egg to seal the edge and to glaze.
1 tbs granulated sugar.
THE CRUMBLE.
175 Gms Plain Flour
1 Tea Spoon cinnamon
180 gms chilled unsalted butter
140 gms soft brown sugar
35 gms oats
Method
Mix the apples up, more a bit of a shuffle really. Mix the cinnamon with the sugar. Put a layer of half of the apples into a oven dish. Sprinkle with a third of the sugar mixture. Lay on the black berries. Sprinkle with the second third of sugar mixture. Cover with the remaining apples. Finish with all the sugar mixture that is left.
Now make the crumble mixture. Place the flour and cinnamon into a bowl, mix well. Run through the sugar and the oats. Now rub through the butter to make crumbs.
Lay the crumble mixture onto the fruit.
Place the oven dish into a pre heated oven at 160 degrees C to bake for about 40 mins. Keep an eye on the top. If the sugar goes golden it looks great, black not so good.
Serve with home made custard.
