Blues maestro Kris Barras joins Planet Rock to present a two hour show every Sunday from 5pm!
You can also catch a repeat of the show from 7pm on Thursdays, or listen again on the Planet Rock app.
Kris Barras needs no introduction to Planet Rock listeners, but if you need a potted history, here goes!
Born in Devon, Kris began playing guitar at the age of 5 under the guidance of his musician father Paul, performing his first-ever gig with his dad’s band at the age of 9. His childhood dream was to tour the world as a musician and whilst that has now come true, his life took many twists and turns before getting to this stage.
For most of his adult life, Kris had an unusual side-job alongside his music - although now retired, he spent 10 years as a professional mixed martial arts and Muay Thai fighter, which saw him compete and train in Las Vegas, Thailand and Singapore.
"People used to think I was crazy to be fighting in cages, risking damage to my hands. Truth is though, I always enjoyed it and found that the fighting world offered me more opportunities than the music industry. I got to fight in front of 8000 people in Asia... I would’ve much rather had played to them instead of getting punched in the face!"
Over the last 18 months, The Kris Barras Band have had a whirlwind rise, from the release of 2018’s ‘The Divine And Dirty’ album, they've supported the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Black Stone Cherry, Beth Hart, The Magpie Salute, Joanne Shaw Taylor, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Walter Trout and Jonny Lang!
In 2019, Kris and his band won the prestigious 'Best New Band' award at The Rocks, and their album ‘Light It Up’ reached #49 in the UK charts.
As well as all this, Kris has also toured Europe as the frontman in Supersonic Blues Machine with the legendary Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top!
