Stars from across the rock world have been paying tribute to Chris Cornell who died last night. He was just 52.

The Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog singer and distinguished solo artist in his own right, died just hours after Soundgarden performed at the Fox Theatre in Detroit as part of Soundgarden's 2017 North American tour.

Chris’s representative Brian Bumbery said the death was “sudden and unexpected” and that his family were shocked and saddened by the news.

Testament to Chris’s towering status, since the news broke this morning stars from across the rock world have paid homage to him.

You can read some of the online tributes below:

Shocking news. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Going to crank Badmotorfinger.
