Ozzy Osbourne has celebrated the 37-year anniversary of his infamous bat-biting incident by launching a new stuffed bat toy.
Featuring Ozzy Osbourne’s logo emblazoned across its chest, the 12” soft toy Plush Bat features a Velcro detachable head so fans can relive the notorious 1982 decapitation.
Sharing a link to his official shop, Ozzy wrote yesterday (20th January): “Today marks the 37th Anniversary since I bit a head off a f*cking bat! Celebrate with this commemorative plush with detachable head.”
The promotional blurb on Ozzy’s shop reads: “The Ozzy Osbourne Plush Bat is a web exclusive. Bring the legendary moment in rock history to life with this soft toy Plush Bat, featuring the Ozzy Osbourne logo and a Velcro detachable head.”
The first batch of bats have completely sold out, however fans can pre-order for the next batch, which will begin shipping in March.
The bat-biting incident occurred at Ozzy’s show at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa on 20th January 1982 on his ‘Diary of a Madman’ tour.
An audience member threw a bat on stage, and, believing it to be a toy bat, Ozzy bit the bat’s head clean off. The singer had to be treated for rabies afterwards.
Other Ozzy antics around the height of his debauchery included biting the head off a dove, being arrested for urinating near the Alamo and (allegedly) snorting a line of ants.
Together with launching the bat toy, over the weekend Ozzy helped his terminally ill former band mate Lee Kerslake complete his bucket list by sending him platinum album certifications for ‘Blizzard of Ozz’ and or ‘Diary of a Madman’.
