The late-great Gary Moore will be honoured at a tribute concert in his native Belfast later this spring.

Taking place at The Belfast Empire Music Hall on Friday 12th April, the first Gig For Gary concert is being held to raise funds for a memorial statue immortalising the blues rock legend.

“Gary gave us his friendship, his music, and the memories – and what better way to honour him than with a memorial statue in his hometown of Belfast, so that he and his music can be remembered by future generations,” reads a post on The Belfast Empire’s website.

“This very special memorial show will not only showcase Gary’s own tunes, but also the classic blues and blues/rock which inspired him over the years and a mix of original blues, blues/rock and progressive rock greatly inspired by Gary.”

Artists performing on the night include Eric Bell Trio – featuring the titular founding Thin Lizzy guitarist and his band - Gerry Quigley & The Durty Blues Band, Patricia Moore Band and Sam Davidson’s Taste.

Organisers of the event say: “The show will finish with an epic blues jam with all musicians on stage! It’s going to be a very special night.”

Tickets costing £15 will be available to buy soon. You can find out more about the show at the official Gig For Gary website.

Gary Moore died of a heart attack on 6th February 2011 while on holiday in Estepona, Spain.

Last October, Gary was honoured by his friends, peers and family with the album ‘Moore Blues for Gary – A Tribute To Gary Moore’.

The brainchild of Bob Daisley, rock stars that contributed to the record include Danny Bowes (Thunder), Don Airey (Deep Purple, Rainbow), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Eric Singer (KISS), Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs), Ricky Warwick (Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders, The Almighty), John Sykes (ex-Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio, The Dead Daisies), Steve Lukather (Toto), Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow), Jeff Watson (Night Ranger), Damon Johnson (Black Star Riders, Alice Cooper) and Stan Webb (Chicken Shack).
