Eric Clapton will headline Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park next summer.
49 years on from his Hyde Park debut with Blind Faith in front of a 120,000-strong crowd, Slowhand will grace the Great Oak Stage on Sunday 8th July 2018. It will be his only UK festival appearance of the year.
“I have happy memories of performing in Hyde Park in the past,” says Eric, “and I’m really looking forward to playing there again – the whole atmosphere is very special.”
Joining him on the bill is guitar legend Carlos Santana, Eric’s former Blind Faith band mate Steve Winwood and blue-rock guitar slinger Gary Clark Jr.
Tickets to Eric Clapton at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park go on sale from Planet Rock Tickets at 9am on Friday 1st December.
Eric’s headline slot was teased in the early hours of this morning when ‘Clapton Is God’ graffiti started cropping up at various locations in London.
Locations included Oxford Street, Waterloo Station, Camden Road, Golden Square and Avron Road in Islington – the location of the much-fabled original ‘Clapton Is God’ graffiti half a century ago.
James King, Senior Vice President, AEG Presents says of Eric’s headline slot: “Eric Clapton is in our fantasy line up every year for BST Hyde Park, a British great to stand alongside the legends that have graced our Great Oak Stage since 2013.
“Add in Santana, Steve Winwood and Gary Clark JR and we absolutely cannot wait to bring this incredible show to the park.”
Alun Mainwaring, Head of Events, Filming and Commercial Development at The Royal Parks adds: “Since 2013, BST Hyde Park has become the homecoming for the world’s greatest artists. First, it was The Rolling Stones and now, in 2018, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Eric Clapton will return to the park, nearly half a century after their famous 1969/70 performances. We can’t wait to welcome them back to this iconic park.”
