One of the most eagerly awaited rock albums, Van Halen's A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH, is released on 6 February and it has been well worth the wait.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH is the band's first full album with Dave Lee Roth since 1984 and it's almost like no time has passed at all. Several of the songs have been salvaged from the vaults, given a modern makeover and a new lease of life.

Of the songs on the album, 'Bullethead' and the awesome 'China Town' really stand out as hard-as-nails rockers akin to the band at their absolute peak. Swaggering behemoths of rock songs that get into your head and refuse to get out, just like those classic Van Halen songs of old.

This is an album that barely takes a moment to breath as it fires through 13 tracks in just a little less than 50 minutes. Lead single and album opener 'Tattoo' is something of a curveball and perhaps the "lightest" track on the album (save for the first half of 'Stay Frosty', which shares DNA with the classic 'Ice Cream Man') but in the context of the album it's a riproaring good time rock and roll number, and it's catchy as hell.

There are a LOT of highlights here which will change with each listen, and they all easily stand up against absolutely anything that Van Halen have done before.

The album is released as a standard CD, limited edition Play.com slipcase and a CD/DVD deluxe edition which contains THE DOWNTOWN SESSIONS - a handful of acoustic performances of tracks such as 'Panama', 'You And Your Blues' and 'Beautiful Girls.'
