Meanwhile the Jimi Hendrix biopic JIMI: All Is By My Side is set to have its first US screening at this year’s South By Southwest festival in March. The film stars André Benjamin, better known as Outkast singer André 3000, as the guitar icon alongside English actresses Hayley Atwell and Imogen Poots.
The film is supposedly “an intimate portrait of the sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend”; it tells Hendrix’s story from his time as a backing musician, for the likes of Ike and Tina Turner and The Isley Brothers, to his famously incendiary set at the Monterey Pop Festival in San Francisco during the Summer of Love.
Director and writer John Ridley, who also wrote the screenplay for 12 Years a Slave, conceived the story eight years ago after hearing Hendrix's track "Sending My Love to Linda."
The film is set to get a full worldwide release later this year.
