Status Quo To Release "Piledriver" Beer
The “Frantic Four” team up with Wychwood Brewery to launch real ale named after their classic LP.
To tie in with the reissue of their classic 1972 record Piledriver, Status Quo are set to release an authentic real ale of the same name, in connection with Oxfordshire brewery Wychwood, most recognisable as makers of the real ale Hobgoblin.
The band now join the likes of Iron Maiden, whose Trooper Ale released last year has proved a huge success, and Motorhead who have their very own vodka, lager and shiraz.
Weighing in at 4.3%ABV, Piledriver is said to be “a traditional malty amber ale balanced with a bold fruity, hop character”.
The band is especially impressed with it - Francis Rossi says: “Music and beer go well together – anyone denying that has never been to a gig, and certainly not a Quo show. We wanted to create something special for the fans, and us of course, to enjoy. Piledriver is it.”
While Rick Parfitt adds: “Piledriver is renowned as one of those albums where it all went right. The chemistry was perfect and the fun flowed. Wychwood has helped us create a beer with the same ethos… and a huge blue gorilla as a truly arresting logo!”
Piledriver goes on sale in Weatherspoon’s pubs from February 17 before going on general sale in April. The deluxe edition of their classic album is due in March at the same time as the band is touring the UK. Tickets for the upcoming tour can be bought through Planet Rock using the links below.
