The actor plays David St Hubbins
McKean is recovering in a Manhattan hospital after being hit by a car while on foot in New York.
His condition was initially reported to be critical, but it has since been moved to stable and the worst of his injuries seems to be a broken leg.
Gibson reports that McKean’s publicist, Harriet Sternberg, characterized the accident as "devastating,” but added that McKean is expected to be "okay.” "He’ll be fine,” she said.
McKean was scheduled to perform tonight (May 23) in the Broadway production of Gore Vidal’s The Best Man. "It’s the first time he will have ever missed a curtain in his entire life,” Sternberg said. "He’s never missed stage, screens in film or television. His understudy has never gone on in 40-plus years.”
