Thursday, May 1st 2014 12:06

Mark Knopfler, Willie Nelson and Tom Petty are also involved.

A tribute album celebrating the life and music of J.J. Cale will be released around the the one-year anniversary of the singer/songwriter’s death in July.

'Eric Clapton & Friends: The Breeze, An Appreciation of JJ Cale' will feature 16 Cale tracks revisited by Clapton as well as Mark Knopfler, Willie Nelson and Tom Petty among others.

"I would like people to tap into what JJ Cale did - that's the point. I'm just the messenger; I've always felt that that's my job." said Clapton.

"I try to interpret things so that the public at large, or at least the people who listen to what I do, will become intrigued about where I got it from."

The record is scheduled for a July 29 release, just three days after the first anniversary of Cale's passing on July 26, 2013.
