The Greatest Rock Intro
Throughout April thousands of you have been voting for the Greatest Rock Intro - and now we have the results.
In a not altogether surprising result, DEEP PURPLE'S SMOKE ON THE WATER has been crowned the Greatest Rock Intro - adding to its Greatest Riff crown that it picked up last year.
The simple four bar refrain that has been air-guitared to death since its release in 1972 is an undoubted winner in terms of beautiful simplicity. No other opening to a song is so recognisable, and that's why just under 7% of the votes won this particular accolade for Deep Purple.
