What Is Your Definitive Hawkwind Album?

Space rockers Hawkwind were formed by guitarist and singer/songwriter, Dave Brock and guitarist Mick Slattery, who decided to join forces in 1969 to become 'Group X' then 'Hawkwind Zoo' before being shortened.

In '71, exactly a year after their debut self titled album, Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister joined on bass. He recorded five albums with the group including their first live offering Space Ritual and two studio classics, Hall Of The Mountain Grill and Warrior On The Edge Of Time. Lemmy stayed with the band for nearly four years before being sacked for a mistaken drugs mix up at a Canadian airport. Shortly after, he went on to have success with his own venture, Motorhead.

In 1976, Hawkwind were immortilised in a sci-fi novel 'The Time Of The Hawklords' by Michael Butterworth and despite the numerous changes to the group's line up over the years, Brock has remained the only constant member to stay with the group.
Throughout the nineties and onwards, the band began to consistently release live material, highlighting their customary habit of documenting their alternative versions of studio songs when they gig. This year's new mini-album Take Me To Your Future is the latest addition to their extensive back catalogue.
